They decided that if they couldn’t find that devotion to Relentless Care elsewhere, then they would help each other—so the Daisy Employees Federal Credit Union was born. As a credit union, members were also part owners, and had a say in how it would operate.
Their focus on serving the community was relentless—and that hasn’t changed. It took grit to get started; no one took a salary, and in August 1951, they earned just $1 in interest against $55 in expenses. But they never wavered. Every dollar, every decision, every effort was driven by a belief that people deserved better.
We’ve expanded since then, and our name has changed throughout the years, but we’re still carrying the torch as a for-impact financial institution that those Daisy employees lit years ago. The relentless devotion to personal service and dedication to community impact are just as important today as they were back then. Because, while times change, our purpose of creating joy and igniting Michiganders’ Impossible Dreams stays true—driving us to build a brighter, more hopeful future every day.
Searching for a different kind of financial institution, one that put peoples’ needs first, the employees of the Daisy Air Rifle Company banded together to form the Daisy Employees Federal Credit Union.
When Daisy moved south in 1958, the credit union was granted a community charter and changed its name to Plymouth Community Federal Credit Union with a mission to serve the entire population of our beloved Plymouth.
Plymouth Community Federal was granted an operating charter to serve the Plymouth, Plymouth Township, and Canton communities. Our membership base expanded in 1977 to include the city and township of Northville, so we changed our name to the more inclusive Community Federal Credit Union.
A merger with Montsego Credit Union in 1983 helped us continue to grow by extending our membership to Northern Michigan’s Montmorency and Otsego Counties.
To better match our mission, and our whole scope of financial services, we officially changed our name to Community Financial in 2003. In 2013, we converted to a statewide charter so that we could serve all of Michigan. Bringing our unique approach to any Michigander who could use it.
We've had a few names throughout the years. And orsa credit union is the next chapter in a 75-year story of showing up for Michigan through life’s milestones, challenges, and wild, Impossible Dreams. This latest evolution reflects a clearer, more distinctive way to tell our story, while staying true to who we’ve always been.
So, thank you for being part of our story. We’re excited to keep building what comes next, together!
